Description:
|
Hard drive is 30GB and memory is 192MB of Ram built in CD-Rom/RW and DVD-ROM
Can get between 1 1/2 to 2 hrs out of the battery.
The built in pcmcia slot is for one card at a time only but works fine under linux for all my cards.
Case has a metalic look to it with the Compaq logo at the top.
Has S-Video out port that at current is not supported under Linux.
Unit has 2 usb ports, one serial port, one printer port, and auxilliary monitor port.
Has built in controls for audio (which work fine under gnome 2.4) and mic and earphone plug slots.
Has synaptic touchpad mouse with scroll on right side (re-quires tweeks under some distros to get working).
1/2 of the "Multi-media keys" work when defined by system, other half require keyboard mapping tweeks.
Built in modem is as yet unsupported the chipset on the modem does not match any of the currently listed supported chipsets supported under Linux.

You *must* disable "legacy USB" support in the BIOS, or USB autodetection will crash. You should also pass "nolapic" and "pci=noacpi" as kernel parameters. If these two things are done, the machine runs Linux beautifully.
As stated, my main distro is Slackware-current (via swaret), with a 2.6 series kernel. I think it's worth mentioning, however, that I've also tested (installed, booted, played with, but never really used) Xandos 2 and Fedora Core 2, on this machine. I've also run 2.4 kernels, with no immediately apparent problems.

Kernel (uname -r):

Knoppix 3.7

Knoppix 3.7 works on this laptop with the following limitations:
The IGP 320M Graphics Card is supported only in VESA mode.
You must boot using the 2.6 kernel. The 2.4 kernel locks on boot.
