Everything went quite smoothly during the install. On first reboot, the system locked up. Quick Google told me that I had to boot up via install cd, chroot my main partition and edit /etc/pcmcia/config.opts to remove 1 line.

Install of Kernel 2.6.6 went without a hitch

The Intel Pro/2100 Wireless mini pci card installed no problems with the drivers from ipw2100.sourceforge.net

As I said before, everything works beautifully.

ndiswrapper worked more or less and then got trouble some. After I worked through the native driver install ( ipw2100 from sourceforge) life's been good with this laptop.

Problems:
After I installed ACPI, the screen didn't want to turn off when closed. I'm probably forgetting to do something.
After you install the alsa driver, it defaults to the modem being your primary sound device, so you just have to change it and it'll work.
After one year, the scroll lock, numlock, etc LEDs on the top fail to work. The power, hard drive activity, ac line/battery status LEDs don't work all the time.
The biggest problem of all: the power button doesn't want to power up the laptop right away. You have to keep pressing it until it works.

Everything works fine. Wireless works with the ipw2200 drivers. The Conextant modem works with stuff from linuxant.

Lets see... well with my wirless card i have to use ndiswrapper and that works but my card went out or something i cant get it to connect to a network or assign a essid. with old slackware versions i had to disable the rc.pcmcia script because of a port error in config.opts. I still dont know if that works, never used the pcmcia. The video card is a nightmare to get working but i have with ati's driver and some tools from http://www.loria.fr/~thome/d600/#scripts this guy knows what hes doing with this shyt. I also used http://www.pocketace.net/pocketace.php?pg=articles&ar=slackware for a lot of information, this guy accually found out that broadcom didn't have a driver for my card and helped me get ndiswrapper working. Sound workes fine with the alsa drivers. I created my own xorg.conf with the radeon drivers and thats sweet, i did something in that setup to get my 5 button mouse to work and both the usb and the touchpad works perfect even scrolling works. Never used the modem or irda. and i have found for some advanced stuff check out http://www.guilds.net/machines/600m/ with this page you can set some fine tuned settings. the only thing i may have a question on is i want to get a pcmcia wireless card and i want to have one that uses the prism/2 chipset and is easy as hell to get installed. I am thinking of working on the scripts to get all the other buttons such as volume, mute, fn keys to work.

I got this using a few Dell stackable coupons, which brought the price from $1700 to $850, including shipping. :) I have the P4 1.9Mhz Centrino and 1GB (2x 512MB) RAM.

I downloaded the 5-CD version of SUSE 9.3 and began the install. The process took less than an hour. It recognized both my wireless and built in network cards. I also have LinEAK working perfectly with the keyboard shortcuts. (I used the built-in Dell Inpsiron 9100 selection, which controls the volume and muting.)

The only issues was with the graphics. It failed to recognize the ATI 9000 video card. I had to manually select this and the dell LCD in order to get my 1024x768 and 3d working using SaX2. Some of the OpenGL screen savers flicker a bit and I don't get great frame rates in GL117, but I'll save that game for my deskotp system with my 20" monitor.

The only other issue is power management - I can't seem to get the screen to shut off using ACPI when I'm plugged in. The screen saver kicks in and the screen does shut off when I'm no battery, but not hwen I'm plugged in. Other than that, everything is working like I'd expect on a laptop.

[edit] Just tried the suspend button - works like a charm. ACPI put the machine in suspend to disc. I then revived it no problem. Back up and in KDE in about 10 seconds. Nice.

The first time I installed FC3 I had some problems with the bootloader but I tried the installation again, and it all went smooth (no idea what went wrong). Recognizes all my hardware except my 2100 wireless card (haven't tried ndiswrapper yet). I haven't need any aditional driver, everything work well except the acpi but I understand it's a work in progress.

The only thing I haven't tested is the dial-up modem.
Otherwise every thing worked out of the box including wireless. In fact the install of Suse 10.0 was too darn easy.;) Kudos to the Suse team.

Everything worked perfectly out of the box. Even display drivers and wireless functionality!! Congrats to the folks at Ubuntu!

The wireless (Intel PRO Wireless 2200 b/g), network card (Broadcom 4400), gfx card (ATI Radeon Mobility 9000), and everything work well. SpeedStep, suspend, etc. work fine.

The WinModem doesn't work without conexant drivers.
