Kernel (uname -r): 2.4.26
Distribution: Slackware 10

Originally had Mandrake 9.1 on it and just switched to Slackware 10. ACPI is not enabled. Laptop has a PCTel winmodem which was working in Mandrake with the hcflinmodem driver. I have not enabled it in Slack. The Synaptic touchpad works fully, including tap. Have not mapped "internet" buttons yet, but sound volume button works.

I have Compaq Presario 703jp

First I installed Fedora Core 3, which seemed to work good (didn't test all the hardware though), but didn't like it too much. It is too automatic.
Then installed Debian Sarge and it works perfectly. I had some problem installing it, but the solution is very simple (once you know it) and described on my homepage:
