When I first connected the iPod to my Linux box, it found three partitions (sda1-3) but none of them had any identifiable filesystem.
I connected the iPod to a WindowsXP PC and during the iTunes installation, there was some sort of iPod initialization (I can only assume that the unit was formatted in some way). After that, upon connecting to my Linux box, it finds only two partitions (sda1, sda2). the second partitions is mounted (vfat) as a USB mass storage device. I am now able to use GtkPod for transfering music, creating playlist, etc. etc.......
It works Great!
