USB support works great under FC2.
I opened up gtkam, searched for the Canon PowerShot a300, clicked on it and the pictures started downloading. The a300 does video as well. The video downloads, but I have not tried veiwing the videos.
The camera needs to be on and ready to send info, else gtkam can't find the camera and an error occurs.
Unless you want to blow pictures up, 3.2mp is plenty. The camera is fairly intuitive, the owner's manual is easy to understand and takes you step by step through any process. Once you understand the menu system, its easy to navigate.
The human eye can only understand about 3mp. Having more than this is just overhead. If you want prints over 8x12, then looking at more megapixels would be judicious.
I use the point and shoot function and photographing my dogs is easy. The camera does a pretty decent job of capturing the subject in all lights, even when the camera is in light and the subject is in shadows.
I purchased this camera from RefurbDepot for 110-140$ I can't quite remember, but I know it was unders 150$ with shipping to Idaho.
