It is possible to select USB from the list of mouse types when installing Slackware 10. Make sure the mouse is connected before you make the selection. The USB mouse will be assigned to /dev/mouse.

When configuring X with xorgconfig, use the IMPS/2 protocol. Don't emulate the third button.

To get scroll wheel support, also add the following lines to the mouse section of the etc/X11/xorg.conf file:

Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
 is offline
