well i have to say, if you can grab an audigy card of any type, i highly recommend it ...
i think all soundblaster cards rock, and there is no other way to go, other than to have one of these ..
as of compatibility, i personally never did have a problem.
i used this card with redhat, mandrake, and slackware, and the only distro i can think of that didn't auto-detect it off a default install was slack8 ... in which i installed it with no problems ...
otherwise there has been nothing but success ...
i have seen many threads pertaining to people having "issues" so to speak about getting their SB card working, and i can't think of anyone that in the end didn't have it working ...
so if your looking for a good, compatible, awesome sound card, then my first suggestion would be none other then a creative labs sound blaster, whether it is a audigy or not, you won't be disappointed ....
well i mean unless you get an old school SB16 or something ;)

This card, be it used in windows or a *nix distrobution, is a great card, and I highly reccommend it. Its very compatible, and requires minimal fidling with to get it working with anything. I paid cool 38 bucks or so on ebay (just avoid a guy named justmodem (and possibly justpc depending on his ebay name)...2 weeks to ship something and no communication...blah). It works great in mandrake 10, just as long as you make sure to turn up the volumes and such in kmix if your using kde...dunno bout gnome, hardly used it ever. Suse 9.1 seems to like it, and I am installing Suse 9.0 which should use it just as well as anything. When testing out UT2k4 in linux distros the 5.1 audio was working so that is always a plus.
No complaints about the card, period. Great price if you find it on ebay new and or used.....great sound, great sampling rates and codec supports. I paired mine up with a creative inspire 5.1 speaker setup.. You can use that, or if you have a receiver i reccommend plugging it into there if possible either via the creative drive attachement that comes seperatley, or like i have done in the past, is hooking it into the analog inputs if it has it.

Works perfectly. Installed it, was auto dectected and configured. A really great high-preformance card. Highly recomended.

Was automatically detected and configured using alsaconf. It uses the snd_emu10k1 kernel module.
Just had to toggle to off the "Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack" under the "Switches" tab in kmix (to get any sound at all) and turn up the channel "EMU10K1 PCM" or I would only get sound out of my right speaker.
Oh, I did have to run snddevices to fix devices permissions, but I don't think that was related to the card itself.
It works smoothly so far. 28 (!) channels (bass, treble, 3D controls etc)
Sound quality seems to be really good (I'm no sound expert though...) I have no complaints about it.
I would highly recommend it.
