Great compatibility. To install, I followed the instructions from http://www.linuxprinting.org

Basically, it tells you some printer drivers to use, and the one recommended for Hewlett Packard printers is HPIJS.

So i went to the HP linux printing page (http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net), and followed the instructions. First you have to compile/install CUPS (or foomatic), and then you have to install the HPIJS driver. I followed the instructions on the sourceforge site and the printer worked perfectly.

Worked right out of the box. No extra drivers or anything.

Works out of the "box" (actually, I bought it used from a re-sale store). Mandrake found the correct driver automatically. Colour output is fine.
Sometimes when I print Postscript files, it cuts off the very bottom of the page.

Fedora Core 1 installer did not recognize the printer while it was connected through USB. This was apparently due to a bug in the 2.4 kernel USB support.

The printer worked fine when connected through the parallel port. On reboot, the new hardware was recognized and configured with no further problems.

Before upgrading to Fedora Core 2, I switched the parallel cable out for the original USB cable. The Fedora Core 2 installer recognized the USB printer and configured it with no problems. Have had no further printer problems since then.

Hi everyone

Worked out of the box with these distribution's and it will I believe with as well since it's is in the driver list. I also had the 832c and it works the same as the 812C. Look for it in a used clothing thrift shop I got it for 10.00 bucks there, ink cost more than the printer 70 bucks
for color and black carts.
