nforce2 chipset has problems with the sound but everything else seems to work fine. I'm still working on the sound, the Nvidia site has not yet got pre-built rpms for Mandrake 10.0 for this chipset.

Kernel (uname -r): ???
Distribution: Mandrake 10.0 Community

I am quite the newbie with Linux, I used some of Mandrake 9.2 in the last years but I didn't spend enough time there. Now I got my new machine with MSI K7N2 Delta-L mobo and Athlon 2600+ Barton CPU and I get error messages when trying to install Mandrake 10 or run MandrakeMove mobile linux distro (9.2 on a CD). MSI says that the motherboard is compatible with Windows but doesn't say much with regards to Linux, but Nvidia posted the drivers for nForce2 at their site so it should work!!! But when trying to install I get this weird messages that it cannot access the HDD's or the partitions... what can I do?????
THANKS!!!
Martin

I had some problems with the onboard sound, but after I put in an audigy and shut it off, the board runs beautifully with linux. I have a Barton 2800+ on it with 512 MB of Corsair TwinX 2700 CAS2 LL DDR. Great performance, and rock solid stability. Highly recommend this board unless you want to use the onboard sound, which seems to be more trouble than it is worth.

I do not use onboard sound and video, but I do use everything else (USB). Along with AMD Athlon 3000+ XP, the motherboard works fine.

Besides the popping with the audio, everything worked right out of the box.

The only distro that works out of the box is SuSE 9.2.

Most others have problems with the sound chip:
Knoppix 3.8 is fine except for sound.
Debian 3.? didnt like the video but I didnt bother trying it with the proprietary nvidia drivers so maybe that would have worked.
Ubuntu 4.10 liveCD works except for sound - an earlier warthog didnt pick up video.

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.11.9
Distribution: Gentoo (also used Fedora 2/3)

Initially had some random lockup issues, but I think this was memory more than the board itself.

Works fine with linux with my 1800+ XP and 512mb ram, Geforxe2 MX (I know, needs an upgrade, but I dont game on this box so no rush) - the sound and networking onboard are supported by the kernel, so no need to worry about nvidia drivers, though those also work.
