Kernel (uname -r): 2.4.23-2.tmb.2mdk
Distribution: PCLinuxOS

Using GTKam (GPhoto 2), I was able to browse the pictures stored in the card. I didn't have to configure anything, but to get it to work the camera must be set to the preview/play mode and turned on before starting the application. Then simply add the camera.

The capture command does not work well. When I issue a capture command by right-clicking > Capture, the camera just starts firing shots at fixed intervals without any control whatsoever. Not all the shots are saved.

Also works well with Digikam.

Use digikam and gphoto2. No problems in downloading images/video clips to PC. As mentioned previously the camera must be on and in playback mode.
