Description: 2 megapixel digital camera, which can also be used to record short video clips. Uses a Smartmedia memory card to store images and is accessed via USB as a mass-storage device (cable included).
Does not work in "Webcam mode", only as a mass-storage device. In order to mount it, you must have support for your USB Host Controller compiled into your kernel or modprobed (usb-uhci or usb-ohci) as well as usb-storage. This implies that you have SCSI disk support in your kernel or modprobed, as it is required for USB mass-storage support. Check your dmesg after you've connected the camera via USB for the name of the SCSI-emulation device (probably /dev/sda) and then mount that device (as a vfat partition) to gain access to the device.

Would you recommend the product? yes | Price you paid?: $500.00 | Rating: 9

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.22-14-generic
Distribution: Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon

I love this camera. It is not a top-of-the-line model; at $500 or so, it was more the economy model of its day. But mine after many years now, is still working fine. And shortly after I installed Ubuntu Linux, I tried the camera, and it worked without a hitch. I simply plugged in the USB cable, and I'm fairly certain that my device was recognized. (I don't even think I had to download a driver from the Fui website.) If I had to do it all over, I'd buy this camera again.

One thing I should mention is that I never tried to install Fuji's pic-viewing software. I'm happy with just using Linux stuff to work with the pictures. So I don't know if the Fuji software works or not. (I think it was called FinePix Viewer maybe, something like that.) I hope someone else can comment on whether that software, which came with the camera originally, works with Linux.
