Description: This is a parallel port scanner produced by Canon.
Very low price about 30US$ and "made for windows", thus not very well supported under linux - not for newbies, as you have to make and install yourself.

If you compile

I had to recompile the hole packeges concerning the scanner device as this model is not supported by default.

Afterwords I activated the new driver and I think the quality is better than under windows.

anyway the new usb scanners are much much better

Just needed to add Parallel Port support to the kernel. However, at high resolutions I often get I/O errors.

The product is alright under Windows.

It's a #$% under Linux. If you see this in stores today, avoid it like the plague.

If you had one in a bundle from 1999 that's still haunting you (Like what's happening to me) then good luck; I don't think it'll work straight out-of-the-box with any distro, but I think there's a SourceForge project with a decent driver.

Do yourself a favour and get a nice HP if you can.
