This burner works quite well under Linux using the latest cdrecord and scsi emulation.

Should look something like this in dmesg:

Yamaha CDW3200IX-VK

External CD writer
Interface : IEEE1394/Firewire only
Requires a 6pin - 6pin firewire cable to connect to PC (normally supplied).
Write speed : 24x

No problems at all with this model of the Yamaha CDW3200. Had to reboot to get it working properly with Mandrake 9.1, hot-plugged fine with Mandrake 10. Time to burn a full CD is consistently a few seconds over 4 minutes.
