Description: Monochrome laser printer with max resolution of 600dpi. One of the cheapest to buy and run. Does not print raster graphics well, prefer vector graphics. Very good quality of text.
Works well under Mandrake 9.2, Suse 8.2, RH 9
Keywords: entry level laser printer
Connection Type: Parallel

Kernel (uname -r): 2.4.x, 2.6.12.3
Distribution: Mandrake 8.2 & up; Slackware 10.1

Works best if parallel port is set to use ECP/EPP. Be sure the IEEE 1284 option is selected in the kernel and ECP/EPP or ECP in the computer BIOS. Configuration is explained in /usr/linux/src/Documentation/parport.txt. The printer drivers from www.linuxprinting.org work very well. I currently use Slackware 10.1, kernel 2.6.12.3, with CUPS and the Samsung-ML-4500-gdi.ppd, which was installed following the directions at http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=gdi
