The main issue with using the AMD FirePro/Catalyst drivers is that one must load the stock kernel with radeon.modeset=0 to prevent the kernel's radeon KMS from being used. Or compile the kernel with KMS turned off as the default on the Radeon driver. When the radeon KMS feature is disable or off, the AMD/ATI FirePro drivers work very well in X-windows.
The workstation is setup with two V7900 in Crossfire configuration. It was as simple as checking off Crossfire in the Catalyst Control Centre.
The V7900 comes with 4 Display port to DVI dongles and a Crossfire bidge. With the Accell B086B-001B Display port to HDMI dongle, one can connect with HDMI to A/V reciever. (At this time, the Accell B086B-001B was the only display port to hdmi dongle with AMD Eyefinity certification that one can actual buy now.)
