Description: Laptop cardbus/pcmcia adapter 4-port serial (RS232; 9-pin D-SUB)

Kernel must have at least maximum 12 (don't know exactly why) possible serial ports, but stock kernels usually have 32 possible, so unless it's a custom kernel with less than 12 maximum serial ports, the card is hotplug and play (you can insert it and remove it on a live system.)

I have 2 that I've used for years, and all four ports seem to cooperate well. It uses the 'serial' module, and the 8250 module for seriously ancient devices.

I must caution that if the serial device plugged into the serial card also has a kernel driver (quite rare, but PPS is a notable exception), both modules must be the same: either both compiled as modules or both compiled in the kernel.
