This is a typical "Winmodem" (probably the most common one), that can not be used without a special driver (kernel module).
Debian has meanwhile integrated the module as a separate binary package.
Also compiling the module yourself is no problem and once the module is installed and loaded, the modem works without problems.

SuSE 9.0 automatically detected and installed my Lucent WinModem. All I had to do was add my ISP information and I was up and running.

After installing SuSE 9.0 and adding my info, I just clicked on the plug by the time.

The modem seems to be working great. I am loading things much faster than in Windows XP, and am quite pleased.

The build-in Lucent modem works fine with lt-modem on my porteble Armada E500 Compact so long as I remove the Xircom plug-in (Ethernet/modem) module before booting. If I don't everything looks fine but I can not get a connection.
Did put the insmod commands in a startup script.
Connectionspeed stays around 50 K.

How should i install LUcent 56k MOdem on red hat 7.3, and fedor core 2?????

Just download and install the drivers from Lucents website and you are ready to go!
