Description:
|
This is a dual drive EEEPC 900 with 4GIG and 16GIG internal SSD hard drives. Everything works out of the box with stock 2.6.32-1-mepis-smp Kernel.
My Hotkeys work.Suspend works. Downloaded Linux Skype Debian deb package and it works, camera and mike. Sound, Camera, Mic, resolution display,and touchpad (tap) all work. I use WICD for wireless though Rutilt and Ceni are also available in AntiX 8.5.
I run Debian testing repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list. I run as a rolling release with (as root user in a terminal)
Code:
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
My install how (with screenshots) to is at YATS. I also include links in my tutorial on how I edited /etc/fstab for limiting writes and also how I moved /home to secondary 16 GIG SSD Hard drive (links included).

AntiX 8.5 is speedy using Icewm and Fluxbox and a Rox-Pinboard version is also available by using F1 key to change Desktop Sessions at Slim Login window after installing. AntiX has a useful Help section using Dillo 2.2 Browser in file:/usr/share/antiX/FAQ/antiX-FAQ.html#after_initial
which answers a lot of user frequently asked questions after doing a install. smxi from H2 also comes preinstalled in AntiX. Flash works out of the box also. I am running
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_22
Shockwave Flash 10.1 r85
DivX Browser Plug-In (File name: gecko-mediaplayer-dvx.so,Gecko Media Player 0.9.9.2)
QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.4 (File name: gecko-mediaplayer-qt.so,Gecko Media Player 0.9.9.2)
RealPlayer 9 (File name: gecko-mediaplayer-rm.so,Gecko Media Player 0.9.9.2)
Windows Media Player Plug-in (File name: gecko-mediaplayer-wmp.so,Gecko Media Player 0.9.9.2)
All plugins are Shown from about:plugins in Iceape 2.0.10 Browser.
If you are like me. And root has to fit on just 4 gig SSD. AntiX lean and mean philosophy works pretty well on a EEEPC 4 gig SSD.
Code:
$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 3.7G 1.8G 1.8G 51% /
tmpfs 1009M 4.0K 1009M 1% /lib/init/rw
udev 10M 272K 9.8M 3% /dev
tmpfs 1009M 4.0K 1009M 1% /dev/shm
/dev/sdb1 15G 4.0G 11G 29% /mnt/sdb1
/var/tmp 1009M 4.0K 1009M 1% /var/tmp
/var/tmp 1009M 1.3M 1008M 1% /var/log
tmpfs 64M 21M 44M 33% /media/ramdisk
I also run Firefox 4.6 Beta from /home on this baby. Applications I use are Skype, Evilvte terminal,xmms music player,Streamtuner, Gnome Mplayer, Goggles Music Manager, Gxine media player, rox and pcmanfm file manager with MC File Manager also. Different Desktops are available like KDE,Gnome,XFCE,LXDE, through Meta Package installer. Synaptic Package manager is also included in AntiX 8.5.
All in all a pretty painless distro to run on a dual drive Asus EEEPC 900 4GIG/16GIG dual SSD drive netbook.
