The Archos 3 is a small MP3/4 media player with a 3" touch sensitive screen.
It plugs into all the Linux OSes I can think of, and is seen as a regular Removeable Drive with pre-defined folders for Music, Video, Pictures, etc. It also seems to come with a lot of free music and photo demos.
The only feature to the front display is a back button, which is touch-sensitive and is seamless to the screen. Scrolling through lists is done on-screen with a virtual scroll wheel. The screen is responsive but not suitable for larger hands.
Music playback quality is excellent. MP3, WMA, and OGG audio is supported, but the Archos 3 seems to have some difficulty with OGG metadata, but it does not restrict playback features. Bass is rich and even small audio details are picked up with good headphones.
Video playback is also good with on-screen slider, Play/REW/FF/Stop controls, volume and 1:1/full screen options. The display offers decent colour depth for a 3" screen. Sadly, OGG video is not supported, but makes up for it with xvid/divx compatibility. There is also the usual JPEG support for your photo album. You can also use a custom photo as a wallpaper to your menu screen.
The Archos 3 also supports .TXT files for book reading. You get a small range of font sizes and colours, and it will auto-flip each "page" according to your choice of timer setting. Fonts are clear and easy to read.
Battery life could be better, but I did run the 14 hours as quoted on the specs. Video playback is about 4 hours. Comes with an internal rechargeable battery that gets it's juice via USB.
Other features: FM radio with auto-scan and record. Voice recording also supported. Both functions work well enough.
Headphones (also provided) plug in via a normal 3.5mm jack, but there is no carry case or lanyard clip (or the ability to attach one, the Archos 3 is completely smooth-cased!) The only other feature is a two-way HOLD and OFF slider button.
