When it works, it's a great scanner, inexpensive and good images. However, every time I upgrade distros I have a difficult time reinstalling it as for some reason linux doesn't consider it a standard scanner. There are several posts around the web explaining how to do the installation, (for example http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1000341&page=3 and http://hnygard.no/ubuntu/epson-v300-scanner-on-ubuntu-11-10/) and I have used it in the past with only occasional difficulty. But currently can't get it to work very often. Usually I just haul out my windoz netbook, scan and transfer. I might buy some other scanner, or maybe wait 'til my next upgrade and try again.

I've been using it for 6 months on debian testing, using drivers downloaded from epson --

http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/?OSC=LX

It has functioned perfectly, including scanning 35mm slides and normal documents. Epson didn't update the drivers for 64 bit windows 7 so I was quite happy to see that it worked well under Debian linux. The FOSS is not quite as nice as Paperport (proprietory windows program) but still gets the job done.
