Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.27-11-generic
Distribution: Linux Mint

The Apple's line of mp3 players are always great music players...on Windows. The iPod Touch is almost completely incompatible with Linux. Upon plugging into the computer, all that appears is an "Apple iPod" device that Linux thinks has pictures in it but is really just an empty directory. Furthermore, the main program that works with iPods, iTunes, cannot install on Linux, even with Wine. The only option is to jailbreak it, which is a big inconvenience since you need to do it on a Windows computer, and mess with the software versions before jailbreaking, etc. In other words, it is a great mp3 player, but not necessarily Linux.
