Description:
|
The iTuner Spectra8 is a Brooktree based (bt878) video capture card that packages four independant bt878 capture devices into one PCI card. The card can also be expanded to 8 ports with an add-on module. Note that the extra four ports are merely secondary 'channels' on each of the original bt878 chips.
The manufacturer claims framerates of up to 120fps (4 inputs at 30fps) total throughput.
The card comes stock with BNC connectors and BNC->RCA converters can be purchased as an option.

No real problems installing the card, but if you want some of the advanced features you'll probably find yourself building the most recent v4l drivers.
If you only see one bt878 device in your lspci output then you may want to load the module with 'modprobe bttv card=42,42,42,42' to init all four inputs.

The 2.6 series kernel is slowly bringing on all the benefits of v4l2 into the stable tree (read: less or no patching!)
Things seem to be a bit better with more options (thanks to the updated bttv goodies) such as buffered frames and and agc chroma options.
Buffered frames are great when you run into a project like http://motion.sourceforge.net as the buffered frames can be placed "ahead of" an event that causes motion to create a new mpeg file.
