I have this iPod and I love it, and I find that using this ipod under ubuntu or its derivatives is a breeze, and most features work quite well. I can say that I was unable to get the split screen cover art preview to work properly, and uploading of photos is interesting. I use gtkpod to manage this ipod. Generally, if you install the ipod software under windows or mac and use itunes to sync at least one photo (thereby creating the initial database), then the current version of GTKpod will manage everything for you quite beautifully.
Again, no split screen cover art for me, but that is the only downfall after many reloads on the ipod and trying different things
A shame apple is no longer manufacturing this product, but it made them cheaper!!!!
