Major Points.
A misnomer I came across is the chipset name.
This board does not have a vga chip. The boards with a vga chip use the chipset gf8200.
The standard chipset for this board is 730a, using the MCP78 kernel modules.
This has been submitted to pciid's.
It will run on older kernels with the MCP77 modules.
Note, a board with the vga chipset, gf8200, would support sli and physx
with a pci-x graphics card as well as the on-board vga (dual graphics,
I missed that bit when researching before purchase, $10 difference).
Review, This board has some nice features,
At boot there is an option to boot from a device press F8 to access menu.
This way I can easily boot from a cd/dvd, flash stick,
microSm memory card or any other connected drive.
I like it.
The quality is what you would normally expect from an Asus/Gigabyte Product,
solid capacitors, neat and colourful layout, and well written manual.
Am2 socket supports next gen amd processors (March 2009).
At first I had to setup the bios to use the sata interface for Harddrives.
With older kernels added the boot parameter,
pci=nomsi noapic to boot properly.
And after installation, changed the bios to ahci,
the kernel automatically adjusted to use this interface instead of sata (ide).
