I believe this to be a 'legacy' product (but will be corrected on this) which came with my HP Pavilion. SuSE 7.2, RH 7.1 and MDK 8.0 all configured it straight from set-up. Does nat have satisfactory 3D support (SuSE downgraded to 16bit colours when ticking the 3D box), which is not important to me as I'm not a gamer. Apart from that fine, although I do believe there is a Linux driver available from the Nvidia website if required - I haven't tried it yet.

For 3D support Nvidia's driver has to be compiled and installed, as well X configuration has to be edited manually.
This worked for me, but many people seem to have problems with that.

As I'm not a big gamer, this is not a major flaw for me, just a little inconvenient.

If I didn't need the opengl bit, the nv driver provided with Peanut Linux 9.5 was correctly detected and setup. Worked fine out of the box.

Installed GCC and downloaded the .run file from nvidia.

I read the instructions on the nvidia site.

I ran the .run file and, as by instructions, changed the settings in my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and it worked great.
(changed "nv" to "nvidia" , commented out 2 lines (GLCore and DRI))

Good FPS in opengl games (pretty similar to windows if not faster)
Only thing to remember that I have to run that .run file each time I recompiled my kernel.

This card came with my Dell desktop.
Ever since i started using linux on that machine this card has worked fine...with or without the nvidia driver.
Installing the nvidia driver is pretty easy..the only problem is that you have to install it for a specific kernel version so you cannot switch to different kernel while using the nvidia drivers.That said,I have not had any problems while or after installing the drivers on my machine.I used it with 2.4.24 and it worked just fine.Now i am using it with 2.6.4 and it works even better with this one..(i think).
I would definitley suggest people buy this card if they are looking for a cheap graphic card for linux.

I am wondering if anyone has this card with the TV out, OEM from Dell? If so, does the S-Video work?

hi all,
i have installed Redhat 8.0 in my pc..my PC configuration is AMD processor 2.0 Ghz,32 MB video Ram,128 MB RAM...
after installing the whole version when i tried to boot from my hard disk i get the following message

while boot up and the screen goes blank...now i understand that this is a NVIDIA driver problem...but i would like to know the answer to following questions....

1>is the nvidia driver support not there in the installation CD
2>what version of NVIDIA driver should i download to be compatible with my kernel version.
3>how to install this driver in my PC.

please help me out

Works perfect Stable

Quake3 and Soldier of Fortune run at 70fps through winex
with help of NVIDIA 6111 drivers and OPENGL

This VGA worked out the box with a fresh install of Fedora Core 3. Simply following the instruction at fedorafaq.org, I was able to get 3D acceleration with the vendor drivers in minutes.

Tux racer has never ran smoother for me.
