Install can be a bother if you have not yet installed the Compaq diagnostics/setup tools and the RAID array manager.

With 2.4.22 I have noticed that the onboard SCSI controller (not the RAID card) performs much better with the ncr53c8xx (~= 14MB/s) driver rather than the sym53c8xx one (~=3MB/s!). At least that was my experience with the attached Seagate 10K Cheetahs.

When doing any distro for the first time you will need to point vmlinuz to how much RAM you have. Eg:

mem=exactmap mem=640K@0 mem=255M@1M
#This is my code because I only have 256M of RAM

Kernel (uname -r):
Distribution: Red Hat 9

Review:
I purchased the system with Red Hat 9 installed on it with no problems (4 x 4.3 gig drives as a 15 gig drive and 768 megs of RAM).

Plea for help:
I'm now attempting to put Solaris 9 and Slackware-current on it (not at the same time). I want to reconfigure the RAID array, but I don't think I have the RAID manager tools installed. When I hit F10 at the prompt it says software not available. I think it's just a striped set right now, but I want to go to RAID 5. Does anyone have any information about accessing / configuring / installing the RAID manager for the SMART 2/P Controller?
