Description: Ok, here goes.

This is the onboard chip that comes included with a board with the Intel 810 chipset mainboards, this was compatible on Redhat 9 with the default kernel that ships with it. It is using the ALSA drivers (www.alsa-project.org) and the walkthrough found at http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...company=Analog Devices&card=AD1886&chip=AD1886&module=intel8x0
:)
Sometimes, the modprobe for the intel8x0 module will fail, if this happens, reboot the system and try again, I know this shouldn't make any difference, but it did for me :)
Good luck :)

In windows this device uses CMedia drivers (CMedia AC-97) which is deceiving as under linux it uses the Intel8x0 drivers, it is OSS and ALSA compatible.

Er, I feel obliged to point out that this is not cmedia at all, but in fact analog devices. Yes, the cmedia chipsets masquerade as intel chips, but that doesn't mean that all intel8x0 chips are cmedia.

Sorry, had to point this out.

Amost zero configuration required.
Work seamlessly with alsa & tools.

Does have some problems with old kernels (prior to 2.4.x)
