For compilation optimisation setup the CFLAG on /etc/make.conf

my /etc/make.conf is :

CFLAGS="-march=k8 -O2 -pipe"
CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mirror.ovh.net/gentoo-distfiles/ ftp://mirror.ovh.net/ge$
SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
USE="amd64 perl nvidia alsa dvdr cdr mmx sse2 sse3 3dnow"
ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0"

Kernel (uname -r):
Distribution: Mdk 10.2

also works ok with
mdk 10 to 10.2
kanotix 2 live cd
knoppix 3.7 cd and knoppix 4.0 dvd live
puppy can't remember v no
fc3 and fc4

running it as 32 bit installs as I don't believe 64 bit is advanced enough but I did try kanotix 64 live and hd install ok
