Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.22.14
Distribution: Ubuntu Gutsy

Does not work out of the box with Ubuntu Gutsy.

But there is a good description in the Ubunut forums
http://ge.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?s=ff382e7f70c3e6490fe2bd22e36046e1&t=631881
on how to install the linuxwacom driver from SourceForge.

It explains how to compile and install a new kernel module and how to modify the xorg config file.

After that, works like a charm.

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.26
Distribution: Debian Unstable

I bought one of these low-end wacom tablets a few months ago. It needs a recent kernel and takes some work setting up, but once you get it working it does a nice job. It's great for working in the gimp.

Other than the setup and configuration difficulty, the only bad spot seems to be the little circular touchpad thingy at the top. Maybe I just haven't configured it correctly, but it just doesn't seem to really work properly. It keeps giving me odd, uncontrollable output. So I just ended up ignoring it.

One big headache, but one that's not a problem with the hardware and is probably the same for all such peripherals, is that if you unplug it from your system and then replug it, all the special features will be lost until you restart the x-server. xorg is working on a hal/dbus-based hotplug system that will solve this, but at this point it doesn't support multiple-input devices like this.

To summarize, if you need a serious, full-featured tablet, you should probably look elsewhere, but for simple, casual use, it's quite good.
