Description:

The WK8000 is part of a series of midi capable keyboards from Casio. The series includes the WK3300 and the WK3800 as well, though I have no experience with the latter two.
I have just got this keyboard, and have been trying to get the MIDI connection to work. My system (Kubuntu 7.10) detected it, and was able to use it as the MIDI output device just by selecting it in the Sound System Setup screen in KDE.
It also works with Rosegarden as a midi input and output, though if you want to do any serious work with Rosegarden, you will need a kernel with realtime support, for (k)ubuntu:
Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-rt
Having tested the Casio software in Windows XP (I couldn't get it to work in wine, but once I had got around the USB permissions issue that plagues VirtualBox, it worked nicely in a Windows XP VirtualBox), I can see that most of the functionality is available through Rosegarden.
The software supplied is nothing special, but does allow a certain limited file transfer, I haven't found a way of doing this in linux yet. It also offers a graphical control suite for the keyboard.
Here is a link to the manufacturer's website:

Note that when it describes MIDI support, the MIDI connection is only
through the USB MIDI device, there is no actual MIDI socket on the
keyboard.
