This Sony PCG-V505EX works well with Linux, I was able to replace the internal HD myself the process was simply to remove the bottom screws
and the 4 screws holding it to the frame.
I have used Freespire 1.0.13, Ubuntu 7.04, Mepis, knoppix, Debian and Sidux with Sidux having the best hardware detection of all the distros tested.
The wireless required a firmware update ipw2200 ver 3.0.2 it has worked
very well and connects well to my Linksys wireless wrt54 router.
