Rock solid.
Unlike other manufacturers, ASUS produces laptops that can endure heavy use. The keyboard doesn't bounce a bit on this rig after more than one year of extensive working on it. Which isn't to say that the hinges are immune to rude handling... I don't know, though, because I open laptops carefully (due to bad experiences in the past)
I dropped it once, because the straps on my soft case broke, and it survived.
Linux installs fine on it. I never bothered to get the microphone to work, though. Also some of the hotkeys. On a lazy weekend in the future I might try to get the hotkey working which blocks the touchpad. But all the important stuff works great. I am using the open source driver for the video card, but there is also a proprietary one available.
Very good piece of machine.
