Kernel (uname -r):
2.6.16-11-generic
Distribution:
Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10)
I'm not the first to cover this model for Ubuntu, but I'm the first to do an HCL entry for it on LQ.
Everything worked out of the box for me, but not everything worked perfectly. The three big things that (I feel) need fixing immediately after installation are: resolution of the "bad state" problem, fixing the processor's maximum speed (initially set to 1.333GHz), and the resolution (1280x1024 -> 1680x1050). Once those are taken care of, everything else is a snap.
There are fixes for these problems that have been documented already by Ubuntu's Laptop Testing Team for a different configuration (nx7400 EY305ET#AK on Dapper Drake). I am confirming that these fixes work perfectly for my configuration (EN354UT#ABA on Edgy), and can probably be slightly tweaked to work on similar configurations of the nx7400 (those without Broadcom wireless adapters) in Dapper/Edgy and possibly Feisty as well.
Side note: haven't encountered HP's customer service, haven't had a need to, so no rating on that category. Overall and price-wise, though, very good (10/10)
