Great scanner, great quality, XSane and XSane Gimp and Kooka all love it, It uses no external power, and even hotplugs!
I've lugged it on trips to use with my laptop!

On advice of this review I picked up a used 1200UB. Plugged it in, opened XSANE, threw a piece of paper in the scanner, hit "scan" and that was that.
this is a capable low-end scanner that hot-plugs, uses only one cable (the USB cable), and works fine in Linux. Scans look good in the various resolutions and I tried both color and grayscale.
