This printer doesn't seem to have adequate support from available drivers. I've tried any number of different Canon drivers, but with limited success.
TurboPrint supplies a driver for this printer which works *very* well.
This printer has a max resolution of 1600x1600. It uses 4 ink cartriges (CMYK) and is capable of making very nice borderless photos on glossy ink-jet photo paper. In my experience, the Canon photo paper works best; and better quality is achieved using TurboPrint under Linux than with the Windows drivers supplied by Canon(!).
The printer takes an incredibly long time to 'warm up' when you turn it on.
I wouldn't recommend this printer under Linux unless you buy TurboPrint (or its like), in which case I can heartily recommend it.
Mandrake did not include the exact printer driver for the S520, but the S500 driver works fine. On my system (a Dell Latitude CPxJ 650 in a Cdock II attached to the printer via parallel cable), the printer detection suggested using the Canon BJCxxx driver, which did not work well (output covered only the upper left 30% of the page).
I agree that the printer does take a long time to warm up under Linux.

Terrible, Doesn't work on half the apps without special drivers that can only be obtained through third party. I did, however, find some good support at linuxprinting.org

The printer works well at 600x600 resolution, using the settings suggested by Vincent Valvona (http://www.linuxprinting.org/piperma...q4/000654.html. Using SuSE, the printer was a breeze to set up - far simpler than windows (which had trouble recognizing the extra USB ports).
