The v6000 isn't terribly linux friendly. You can find problems listed on forums all over the place. The short list:

-won't boot X without "noapic" option in grub
-nvidia drivers currently don't work; nv driver limits to 1280x800 resolution (or maybe 1280x1024, but the screen doesn't appreciate that so much)
-wireless drivers are a pain to install; some people report success with ndiswrapper but I have had none (kernel issues have prevented me from installing ndiswrapper from source)
-the headphone jack doesn't work, or if it does, it only works when speakers remain on (may be fixed by latest alsamixer?)

Thank you for the noapic tip. I was giving up the installation. Additionally -I feel I had better luck with the display . I selected generic LCD monitor and 1280x1024 res. Seems to be Ok.

additionally if you add vga=792 to the kernel line things seem to improve.
