Got this drive to replace a problematic Plextor PX-716A. Connected it and it worked ... Period ... End of Story.

Wrote data cd and .iso, copied dvd, played regular audio CD and MP3s from cd.

If you need this type of drive you can't go wrong here, IMO.

I tried to obtain the latest firmware from Lite-On, but they keep insisting that I can't update it if I don't run Windows.

Any ideas how to get this to work?

EDIT... Here's the response I got from Lite-On:

While the operating system may support the device, we have not developed any update which will work outside of Windows. I understand a windows based PC is not available for you, but the drive was not designed with this scenario in mind. I apologize for any inconvenience, but I cannot provide you a resource that is not available.

This will be the only purchase of a Lite-On product I ever make. I'm going to look for something with better support.
