No problems at all, worked right out of the box. Some people may want 3D support, I have no info on how to set that up as it wont be needed for me, there may be drivers available for this.

troubleshooting:

The one problem I have setting up DRI was permissions for DRI which is covered in the troubleshooting manual above.

My two cents,

Radeon 7500 PCI edition REQUIRES you to set the "Option ForcePCIMode true" in your XF86Config file.

Otherwise X will lock your system up solid, forcing restart.

During installation elect to boot into a shell first. Edit the file, then get to X.

Radeon 7500 AGP 2x

Problems with sync rates for hi-res text modes. Framebuffers work well. Xfree86 4.3.0 works well with the stock kernel module "radeon" and the stock Xf86 driver "radeon". Drivers and modules are also available from dri.sf.net and gatos.sf.net. Dual display was not achievable in any reasonable video mode. Dual display (overlay, not side-by-side) was achieved using the "VESA" driver, defaultdepth 2, and video mode 320x200.

Works fine if you dont want 3D acceleration (not all that powerful, either), but if you do, its trouble to setup DRI. DRI doesnt work that well for Radeons, either (in my experience, it may vary). Put simply, if you do 3D work under Linux, buy an nVidia card.

well after purchasing ati radeon 64 mb vid card, i can't seem to play my games, such as warcraft iii, which needs a 3d accelerator!, and i checked up my dxdiagnostics and it says direct3d not functional. Am i getting jipped or is there something wrong with the software?

For some reason the DRM kernel module in vanilla kernels does not support OpenGL accelleration. You can compile a kernel module for 2.4.xx; get it from www.xfree.org/~alanh .

Too bad, it won't build for a 2.6 series kernel. So it's either 2.6 or HW OpenGL for now :(

The OpenGL acc. is however quite fast :) And XVideo HW scaling works like a charm, even with a standard kernel.

It wasn't very hard to get DRI working for this card once I found the proper AGP drivers. 3D acceleration works just fine, at a decent rate.

Works fine with direct rendering, and Mesa.

You can turn on Direct Rendering in Slackware by configuring your x.org config with xorgconfig (root). And then removing any commented DRI lines and GLX. It runs most games pretty well except Unreal Tournament which doesn't run as well as it does in Windoze.

The most notable problem with it is that it doesn't run like its suppose to like it does on Windoze. But you can play Armagetron and get a descent 100fps.

Good card. Terable support. Gatos is near to imposible. TV-out does not work. 2d is ok. 3d if you kick it. Bad card dont get ATI if you have linux.
