Description: [Direct from manufacturer webpage]
The Averatec 3200 Series thin and light notebook packs a lot of punch into a trim package. With a Mobile AMD Sempron™ processor,Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition, multi-format DVD burner, 60 or 80-GB hard drive and wireless connectivity, it’s hard to believe all that fits into a 4.5-pound, 1-inch thin powerhouse.

After a few days tracking down hints and tricks, I've got a fairly complete Slackware setup on this machine.
  • Drivers for the wifi card are available from rt2x00.serialmonkey.com.
  • The stock "Via" driver works fine for the video, although a few changes are needed in Xorg.conf (noted below.) No 3D acceleration yet, but I'm working on that.
  • The Smartlink modem can be used with heavy patching to the drivers. Pseudo-howto available at http://www.averatecforums.com/showpost.php?p=26448&postcount=6.
  • Sound works fine after a lot of headaches on my part. First, run alsaconf, then alsamixer and unmute EVERYTHING! (I don't know what is muted by default that caused me problems, but I just unmuted everything and sound started working fine.)
  • Ethernet card works fine by default, no driver downloads needed.

My modifications to xorg.conf:

Under "Graphics Device Section":
Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "Via Unichrome"
    Driver "via"
    BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
    Option "DisableIRQ"
    Option "EnableAGPDMA"
    Option "NoAGPFor2D"
EndSection
Under "Screen sections":
Code:
    Device "Via Unichrome"
 is offline
