I did a plain-vanilla install of Kubuntu 6.06 (accepted all defaults) on this laptop. It took about 30 minutes to complete the install and reboot into the new system.

All hardware that I have tested (everything but the 56k modem) works fine without any extra work. Really. It's just amazing. Ethernet works, sound works, cardbus works, video works to spec, and CPU speed stepping and suspend-to-disk (ACPI) work as well.

Also, I put a Belkin Super G (F5D7010) wireless card in one of the carbus slots. It works out of the box with no problems. Much easier than installing wireless on Windows.
