Mandriva Powerpack 2007

I already have a thread in the forun on that subject.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=499929
The hard part here is to find a distro that is working without flaws. From personnal experience, FC5, FC6 and Ubutu 6.10 all have problems of hardware recognition that make their use very annoying. I don't know about the free verison but Mandriva Discovery and Powerpack 2007 both work flawlessly. I haven't tried any other linux distro besides those I've mentioned.
However, once the right distro is found, I must say that the product is great. It's powerful and fast and it's cool to be able to activate the 3D effects.

Though this info above is for Gentoo, I've also tested this board on FC5, FC6 and Ubuntu. This board is an EXCELLENT choice for a nice HTPC. Combined with an AMD64 3200, you have a High Def capable box for a relatively cheap price tag (without actually having to use XvMC to offload the hardware!). The CPU is powerful enough to do software decoding, and with the latest 9xxx series of proprietary Nvidia drivers, everything is very smooth and nice to use. With digital audio as an additional option, this makes a great dedicated frontend/backend combo for a MythTV setup.
Cool

The board is excellent, the only problem that I had was with the sound.
searching the web I found that the solution to the problem was to edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and to the end of the file add options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=3stack.
After that everything worked fine

Xandros 4 Professional and Windows XP
|
About a year ago I built two identical machines using this motherboard -- a Xandros linux machine and a Windows PC for those programs that I can not duplicate in Linux and need to have available for use in my business.
The two machines have identical hardware (I chose my hardware after a lot of research, then simply ordered "two of each." And to my pleasant surprise, the Xandros machine is a lot faster and much more dependable. The AMD Athalon 64X2 6000+ running WD Raptor drives and using 4 gigs of ram each is not only quick, but the Xandros rapidly outruns the XP machine. The all nVidia chipset and video card plus the AMD processor is a great combination I would highly recommend. And the Xandros recognizes, loads the right drivers and uses all of the hardware -- from my "ancient" HP 4000 printer that is a like a Clydesdale workhorse that just keeps putting out the work to the NEW Samsung 24 inch monitor I purchased this past (2007) Christmas season!
If you are looking for a good board, search out one of these!
