I dual boot with xp, like a dummy I set up with windows first.Put in cd load drivers and scanner program---get error saying uninstall may not work,I figure so what ! hit ok,then get dialog saying some files failed to install -please reboot and reinstall. ok I do it, then get another failure so I think "F-it"just hit "OK" and let it finish.Then reboot a third time!finally after a half-hour or so of messing around scanner works but only after loading all kinds of HP software ( and going through a software update dialog).Printer works fine.
Ok so "lets try it under linux " I say to myself , Reboot into linux go to control center/add printer,find the printer already there! set up in about 1 minute, print test page in 20 seconds.Go to Kooka find scanner in dialog , try a scan--it works!Go to Gimp acquire image from scanner device works like a charm!
All in it took me about 30 minutes to load drivers and set it up under winblows and about 3 minutes to set up in linux! works right out of box--I'm very happy!

How did you setup the scanner part? What distribution and version of tools if you experienced "just work"?
