This is an excellent laptop to load linux onto. The only thing missing is integrated bluetooth.
The install of Dapper went very well. Almost all hardware was detected and loaded fine. For wireless, it worked with no modifications. I recommend knetworkmanager for managing wireless and wired connections.
The ever problematic Texas Memory SD memory controller works with a rather simple modification.
Code:
sudo vi /etc/modules
append the following lines to the end of the file:
mmc_core
sdhci
I was very surprised with the performance of the Intel integrated graphics. Plenty fast for the few openGL linux games I play (tuxracer and canonsmash).
Lightscribe does not work on the DVD+-R, but I wouldn't have used it anyway.
I had the quickplay keys working on Mandriva 2006, but have not done it under kubuntu. (as a side note, I've used Mandriva/Mandrake for about 6 years, and Kubuntu LTS is a nice change in stability).
I have not tried s-video out, or the firewire. I will update this as I test it.
