A decent entry level 4.0 MP camera with enough features from auto for no brainer shooting to manual and special modes that will keep you busy. Picture quality is good for a camera in this price range.

I especially like the A/V out to TV and the optical viewfinder is a plus as most LCD preview screens (even in high end cameras) are no good in bright sunlight. Many cameras in this range and even higher do not have this feature. I got lucky with the addition of a 256mb SD card included free as a promo. Camera comes with 16 mb standard SD but no onboard memory.

I also like the fact that button and menu controls seem to be located in just the right spot so as to avoid accidents

Canon techs and most info on the 'net indicated that this camera was NOT linux compatible so I bought a $10 SD to USB card reader to present the SD card as mass storage. Just for grins, I plugged in the camera directly to USB using supplied cable and immediately flp icon appeared on the KDE desktop. No external drivers were needed. I guess flphoto has them built into the kernel, but I never knew this, so I will be returning the card reader.

I think I bought the same camera under the name Canon Ixus Wireless

No problems with transferring the pictures and films (with gphoto2, I think, called by the default photo viewer from Ubuntu.) with the USB cable. Still, on the camera I can see the date the photo was taken. I don't believe this information is transfered.

The special wireless feature that let transfer the photo's via a wireless connection and even control the camera from the computer is, I think, not yet supported in Linux.

(I don't think it is very well supported on Windows to. On my PC it didn't work, the helpdesk said try an other PC to see if the camera functions, and yes on a laptop from my job it functions. And now? Had the impression that the installation of Firefox may have something to do with that. That was not yet on my laptop then. Should do an other test.)
