I got this camera for Christmas, and have been very pleased. I could not get digikam (based off libgphoto2) to recognize it until I put the camera in PTP mode for transferring. I don't know if that choice makes me lose any functionality, but since all I'm doing is transferring pictures, and that goes fine, I'll assume not. It is recognized as a Sony DSC-F707V, but like I said, everything works fine.
The camera takes very nice pictures (IMO, although I'm not a professional) and is very easy to use. It has a large lcd, and many presets, although automatic does so well that I don't normally mess with them. The 1 gig Smart Media card I got with it sure helps, since the pics are usually 2.5-3.0 MB each. It will take video in 640x480, with two quality settings, so you can use it to get some nice clips in mpg format, without having to get out the camcorder. The video clips will run as long as you have space on your memory stick.
All in all, I've been very pleased, and would recommend it. Once I figured out that I needed to put the camera in PTP mode, working in linux was a breeze.
