Works great, no problems so far. Very nice little device.

Just mount the second partition and run gtkpod. You can also put a script into the gtkpod startup file, but I haven't tried that. Take a look at the gtkpod README for full instructions: http://www.gtkpod.org/README Gtkpod is a bit light on user-side howtos, but it's not hard to figure out by trial and error.

The only caveat, as stated on the gtkpod page, is to run file-->make ipod directories the first time you try to access the device.

Also, there are some posts online about the device refusing to let you disconnect -- try using "eject" (e.g., "eject /dev/sda" - eject is in the bin package, in Slack). This has worked for me so far without problems, but make sure to give it a long time to unmount before physically disconnecting (it can take over a minute on my machine...)

Excellent. I would recommend to anyone looking for a Music Player, not some fancy pseudo space age blue LED flashlight. Great ergonomics, great sound, great design. OK, maybe I'm just overjoyed <:

Onto Linux related stuff. I second to compatibility with gtkpod, although I had some problems interfacing those two. Now I'm using Amarok. It has built in support for portable devices, including iPod. And it is more comfortable to transfer music straight from my library and player all-in-one <:

Note to xubuntu (probably ubuntu too) users: until now the amarok from repository is 1.4.3 (official version is 1.4.5) and if that wasn't enough it has some version mismatch with libgpod as stated in amarok homepage. The bottom point is, that I couldn't interface my iPod with repository amarok. I managed to interface it only after compiling my own libgpod and amarok.

Another note: it appears that amarok 1.4.5 has some problems with transferring artwork together with albums (doesn't transfer at all). According to amarok home page this will be solved in version 1.4.6. <:

Ans sorry for my weird English. <:
