Red Hat 4 Update 1 recognizes the VIA Envy24PT audio, but it does not work. When I run `system-config-soundcound` the sample sound does not play and the following is returned to the console:

amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device
aplay: main:508: audio open error: No such device

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.12-12mdk
Distribution: Mandriva

I had a similar problem with my Shuttle SN25p and linux.
This site helped me:
http://www.nakack.net/?p=19

But since I upgraded the kernel the module was working out of the box and the hacking mentioned on the site is no longer necessary.

The sound is great and it has a lot of possibilites, many things to choose from.
