Description: This is a PCI based internal modem (a winmodem) but works with the slmodem driver (provided by smart link). On newer 2.6 kernels you might have problems because it uses a proprietary driver, and the kernel refuses to accept it. To solve this, you have two options, either building the alsa driver (I didn't have luck with this); or using the ungrab-winmodem module. Both, the driver and the module are located in http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/. The official drivers are located in http://www.smlink.com/content.aspx?id=135. And yet another issue: with gcc-4.0.0 you might have problems compiling the official driver, so I suggest using the newer packages provided by linmodems.

I don't use this modem anymore, since I switched to broadband. Anyway, if someone is going to buy a dial-up modem, I'd suggest an external serial port modem, it will surely work on linux; however, if you already have this modem and can't afford a new one (or you simply want to make it work), I would recommend the packages from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/ I posted on my HCL entry above :)

Regards.
