Description: A basic ISA 56K modem with controller on-baord. I set mine up on /dev/ttyS2 irq 9 (other settings didn't work for me).

I didn't need to add any special driver.

Would you recommend the product? yes | Price you paid? (in USD): $50.60 | Rating: 6

Kernel (uname -r):
Distribution: SuSE Linux 9.0 Personal

Modem works properly, picks up, dials, handshakes, but authentication fails. Probably a problem with my ISP and not the modem.

Actually I can't recommend the company.

Setup only required one setserial command in rc.local and I added a stty command for good meausure. When it works, it works fine. However about 1 of 8 times when I drop the connection, it goes into some state where I can no longer talk to it. The only way I have found to be able to use it again is to power cycle the computer! (A reboot alone is not sufficient.) *Very* annoying!

E-mails to the company were unsatisfactory. I was hoping they could/would give some advice, comment about whether they had seen this before, perhaps a firmware update. Nope. They finally told me I could return for repair at my expense, plus a fee because it had been over 90 days since purchase. (The 5 year warranty says nothing about a fee!) After being w/o use of the modem for several weeks and the cost of shipping + fee, they might have simply returned it with "no problem found." So I have been living with the problem for a couple years, and cursing BestData every time I have to power cycle.
