Description: Nice, compact external hard drive. 160GB, 7200 RPM

Very long cord for external power is nice when at a client site and you need to reach clear across the room for power.

Two 6-pin firewire connectors for chaining.

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.9-1.667
Distribution: Fedora Core 3

Summary: When the kernel works with the drive, it really rocks. When it doesn't, you get nothing. This is a kernel issue, not the hardware.

Details:
Raw FC3 works pretty good, but I have to cold boot, then reboot for the drive to show up on the desktop. Once it shows up, it works fabulously.

DO NOT apply updates. Something in the FC3 updates causes FC3 to no longer detect the drive.

Kernel (uname -r): 2.6.9-11.ELsmp
Distribution: RedHat Enterprise Linux 4

RHEL4 will *not* work with external firewire hard drives at all.

This is not the fault of the hardware, which works great on other distros, Mac OS X, and *gag* Windows XP.
